ALBAY TO GIVE P2.6M ASSISTANCE TO 'OMPONG' VICTIMS IN NORTHERN LUZON

The Provincial Government of Albay will extend financial assistance to the seven provinces in Northern Luzon badly battered during the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong on September 15, 2018. The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Albay (SPA), through a resolution authored by BM Ralph Andes (2nd District), will authorize Gov. Al Francis C. Bichara to give 500,000.00 pesos each to the provinces of Isabela, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Benguet while the provinces of Abra, Ifugao, and Apayao will receive 200,000.00 each. The amount shall be taken from the five percent calamity fund of the province. "As a show of support and to lighten the burdens faced by our brothers in the typhoon affected areas, this amount will be of great help to them," BM Andes said. Typhoon Ompong triggered heavy to intense rain, storm surges, and very strong wind in Northern Luzon and displaced thousands of people. Several incidents of landslides were also reported causing havoc to lives and properties. "The donation comes at a time when the people of Northern Luzon is starting to rebuild their lives after the typhoon," Gov. Bichara said noting the move is a reciprocating gesture for the assistance rendered by said provinces during the eruption of Mayon Volcano this year. It will be recalled that those provinces also donated food provision like rice, money, and resources to Albayano victims of Mayon eruption. The Province of Isabela donated hundreds of sacks of rice to Albay. (CGP/JPN Source: Albay PIO
